Jason O. Klein

Drums

Jason began making electronic tracks in college. After stumbling upon and finding blissful contentment within the jamtronica scene, Jason started taking drum lessons and has since been busy improving his chops and building more electronic tracks, which you can find here.

Jason integrates electronic beats and soundscapes into his drumming and loves incorporating acoustic world instruments and rhythms into both his stage kit and his approach to the groove.

He lives in Denver, Colorado, home to one of the greatest music scenes around, or at least on earth.

To long jams, short set breaks, and big finishes, cheers.

The Starbird

This project, like many other projects, started during COVID lockdown.   One day, Jason, a drummer in a local jamband, decided to create a rock opera.    He sat on his front porch and asked himself "what kind of story do I want to tell?"  The concept emerged rather quickly - an adventure story filled with danger and suspense, love, friendship, and otherworldly creatures.

Additionally, he decided this was going to be his show. He was calling the shots. He was going to everything himself.

Jason is a natural story teller.  He developed the characters and wrote their back stories. They needed great names.  Over time, Jaywalker, Capitan, Vaysa, Cali, and Agent Barthalemu emerged and came to life.

Next up, the music.  Jason is a drummer. He knows rhythms and song structure, but not melodies and harmonies.  So he had lots to learn. He had to learn to play piano, the scales, and the chords.  He bought a piano and he practiced.  Then he practiced some more. Next, he had to learn how to shape the bass, guitar, and synth sounds. He had to get comfortable with his own voice, not just talking but singing.  He had to learn to mix and master.

And on to the songs. Jason used Ableton to compose each song.  He shaped the bass and synth sounds with the help of YouTube videos.  Then he applied his piano practice to sculpt each song, each section, each movement.  He used his Roland VAD307 electronic drums and Toontrack EZDrumer for the drums.  And he sang every word, learning how to record, mix and master vocals along the way.

After hundreds of car tests - that's when you take an exported song and play it loud in your car - he'd done it! 9 produced tracks, that tell a complete story.

But he felt like he could do more. So much more...

As fate would have it, at the the time he was wrapping up the music, the GenAI movement had begun. Images created from text!!! yes please, thats exactly what this project needed. Would he outsource this to a designer? NO! He knew he could do it himself.

So, then came the animations. Unlike the music which as all Jason's organic intelligence, he turned the amazing genAI technologies that emerged since COVID. He used Dalle for image creation, spending months generating thousands of images. He used Runway to generate videos from these images.  And he put everything together manually using iMovie.

This was truly a labor of love for Jason. He wants to inspire you to do the same. If he can do all of these things, so can you.

And now, he's developing his next project. Stay tuned and keep an eye out for Jason O. Klein.
